Upcoming Club Gold Trips

As depicted bythe golf pictures on the front cover, we have some terrific golf outings planned for our members in the coming months.

The Spring Shootout - 2006 will be held at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Florida (May 7-9).

Be sure to mark your calendars for those dates. Following on the footsteps of our past 2 Spring Shootouts at Pebble Beach (2004) and The Cloister at Sea Island (2005), next year's event ill be in the same mold: lots of fun and some great golf with a terrific group of guys. Don't miss out on this one. Invitations and Entry Forms for the Spring Shootout - 2006 will be mailed out to all members later this year.

Our Golf Trip to Scotland, which is set for August 6-15, has been fully subscribed. All 20 spots filled quickly. And that was no suprise, as we are going to be playing 2-rounds on the Old Course at St. Andrews, 2-rounds on the Carnoustie Championship Course, 2-rounds on the new Kingsbarns Course, which many are now calling one of the best courses in Scotland, and rounds on both the St. Andrews Jubilee Course and St. Andrews New Course (both over 100 years old).

On our schedule over the next few years, we are planning outlings at some of the best golf venues in the country: Pinehurst, the American Club at Kohler (Whistling Straits), the TPC @ Sawgrass, the Greenbrier, and Bandon Dunes, etc... Confirmation and dates for these upcoming outings will be publicized in future newsletters.

Club Notes

Holes-in-One: Several of our members recorded Aces recently. Congratulations to: Tom Doolin and Steve Stroul who had Holes-in-One on the same day, same hole during a tournament at the Kahkwa Club in Erie, PA. Both used 7-irons on the 145 yard hole #3 while playing in a member/member event. Steve was playing with 3 Friars (Dave Snell, Jim Antoun and Kerry Schwab). We're not sure who Tom Doolin was playing with, but knowing him, they all must have been high-rollers. The sad part was, however, neither Doolin nor Stroul won a Skin that day.

Tom Dwyer, also had an Ace, on the 235 yards par 3 number 17 hole at the Tucson Country Club while playing with 3 Friars (Dr. Bob Johnson, Dr. Tom Scully and Steve Buchanan). That Hole-in-One did win Tom a Skin in that day's Scratch Event at the club.

We'ld like to hear from members whenever good fortune comes your way.

Golf Event Recaps

Spring Shootout - 2005, which was held at The Cloister @ Sea Island, GA was a great success. The Seaside Course at Sea Island proved to be one of the top courses in the East. And, it's companion course, the Plantation, was just as good. The Coloister Resort lived up to its phenomenal reputation and te venues for our housing and functions could not have been better.

Beginning with this even, our new Friars Statues were awarded to the following winners:

Bandon Dunes Golf Trip: 36 Friars enjoyed a week of golf at what is now being called the #1 Golf Destination in the USA (see pictures on back cover). Bandon Dunes is truly an outstanding golf destination with its 3 terific courses: Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes and the new Bandon Trails. The Friars will definately be scheduling future golf trips to Bandon Dunes. Of you want to be sure to have a spot on one of those trips, just let me know (Tom@TheFriars.com) and I'll put your name on the list to be notified when plans are being made.

A multiple day Team Event was played and the guys taking home the pot of money were the team comprised of: Mike Cross - Tom Dwyer - Stu Goldstein - Ken Kinsey - Tom Waldron - John Zak.
