The Friars Trophy

Pictured below is the new trophy of The Friar.

The club commissioned one of the world's top golf artists - Jim Fitzpatrick - to sculpture this one-of-a-kind statue. For those of you who attended the Spring Shootout at Pebble Beach, you received a piece of art picturing the famous 8th hole, which was painted by Jim Fitzpatrick.

First awarded at our Spring Shootout at The Cloister last year, this statue will be the coveted award given at all future outings. Sharpen up your golf game and win a statue of The Friar for your own.

Club Notes

Holes-in-One: Sinceour last newsletter, four members recorded Aces. As reported in the last newsletter, Tom Dwyer had a hole-in-one on the 235 yard #17 hole at the Tucson Country Club. Well, lightning did strike twice as Tom scored his 2nd Hole-in-One in two months on November 6th. Using a Cleveland utility club from 210 yard on Hole #3 according to his playing partners the ball was in the hole from the time it left the club. Playing with Tom were Rick LaRose, Men's Golf Coach at the University of Arizona, and fellow Friars member, Rick Rarick

Eric Kroeger, wrote that he was finally able to join the elite Hole-in-One Club on January 21st. Playing with fellow Friars (Ed Klett, Don Pfingsler and George Huber) at the Troon Country Club in Phoenix, Eric used an 8-iron on the 172 yard hole #7. Eric's comment was priceless. He wrote that he thought it was actually a better feeling than losing virginity, because at the time he thought he had a pretty good chance of getting laid again.

Rick Rarick won the Tucson Country Club Senior Club Championship in December shooting rounds of 74-74. Rick won by 1-stroke sinking a 20 foot birdie putt on the final hole. Playing with Rick in the final group were fellow members of The Friars, Dr. Bob Johnson and Tom Dwyer.

Congratulations to Chuck Townsdin, who aced the 17th hole at the Tucson Country Club from the 203 yard markers using a 3-iron on February 8th. A few of The Friars members who enjoyed a drink from Chuck were: Jerry Braun, Mack Brown, Tom Dwyer, Tom Quebedeaux, Ron Swager, and Kimber Webb.

Also joining The Friars Hole-in-One Club is Ross Christie. Scoring his 4th Ace, Ross holed it out on the 3rd Hole of the Pine Barrens Course at World Woods Golf Club in Brooskville, Florida on February 8th. The 3rd hole measures 154 yards and Ross used a 6-iron. Playing with Ross was fellow member of The Friars, John Goodbody.

We'ld like to hear from members whenever good fortune comes your way.
